listy zagraniczne
Waży się przyszłość Polski!
Jesteśmy na rozdrożu! Jedna z dróg prowadzi ku zdrowiu i nadziei, druga niestety w stronę chorób i strachu.
Posłowie będą musieli podjąć ogromnej wagi decyzję o przyszłości polskiego rolnictwa a zatem tak naprawdę o sposobie wytwarzania i dystrybucji żywności.
Teraz Polska staje w obliczu dokonania wyboru.
Należą do nich m.i. Jeffrey Smith, uznany autor dwóch bestsellerów o modyfikowanej żywności i Dr Mae Wan Ho, założycielka londyńskiego Institute for Science in Society .
Raporty oparte o dane od rolników, lekarzy i ekspertów rządowych łączą żywienie zwierząt produktami modyfikowanymi genetycznie z drastycznie podniesioną zachorowalnością, bezpłodnością i śmiertelnością.

Dear Bronisław Komorowski: In October 15, 2007, I was invited as a guest by the Polish government to give a press conference about genetically modified foods and crops with the Minister of Environment. At the conference, I presented new data about the documented risks of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), which supported Poland’s call for a national GM-Free Zone. I later presented the attached sample of a letter that can be submitted by Poland to the EU Commission, worded in such as way, according to a legal expert, that it will effectively counter the EU Commission’s claim that Poland’s GM-Free position violates EU law. Since my visit to Poland, additional data has surfaced that further demonstrate the unanticipated problems with GMOs and the wisdom of taking a precautionary position (see below). At the Warsaw conference, I offered overwhelming, irrefutable evidence that GM foods are not sufficiently safe to feed to humans or animals. I had worked with dozens of scientists worldwide to gather these health risks of GM foods into a single volume. Entitled Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods, the book presents 65 health risks of GM foods, including 20 adverse findings and 45 theoretical dangers. Research revealed damage to virtually every organ and every system studied in laboratory animals. Farmer, medical, and government reports link GM feed to thousands of sick, sterile, and dead animals. And GM products have been tied to thousands of toxic and allergic-type reactions in humans. The book identifies numerous assumptions that were used as the basis for safety claims that have been overturned, and numerous ways in which this dangerous technology, based on an infant science, can produce harmful side effects. It also shows in great detail how the current safety assessments, as conducted by industry and reviewed by government, are not competent to even identify the majority of health dangers and side effects that can come from GM foods. US Doctors’ Association Condemns GMOs as Unsafe Support for our conclusions came recently from the American Association of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), a renowned organization of doctors known for pioneering discoveries that later became accepted worldwide. The organization issued a policy statement calling for an immediate moratorium on GMOs, and in the meantime, urged all physicians to prescribe non-GMO diets to all patients. Their paper said, “There is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects. There is causation…,” and the effects on animals include “infertility, immune dysregulation, accelerated aging, dysregulation of genes associated with cholesterol synthesis, insulin regulation, cell signaling, and protein formation, and changes in the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal system.” Since the AAEM position paper was published in May, 2009, other medical groups have started to evaluate the evidence and are preparing similar statements. Numerous doctors throughout the United States are giving patients educational materials that highlight the health risks of GMOs, and are providing them with Non-GMO Shopping Guides to help them choose healthier non-GMO brands. GMOs Introduced Based on Deception My first book, Seeds of Deception—the world’s bestselling book on the topic—exposes how GMOs were approved and promoted based on corporate manipulation and political collusion, not sound science. The White House ordered the US Food and Drug Administration in 1991 to promote the biotechnology industry. The agency then hired Michael Taylor, Monsanto’s former attorney, to be in charge of its policy. Not surprisingly, that policy, which exists today, claims that GM foods are not substantially different from natural foods and on that basis, no safety studies are necessary. After overseeing such an industry-friendly policy for the government, Mr. Taylor then became Monsanto’s vice president. This past summer, he was put back into the FDA, in charge of US food safety. In 1999, after GM foods were already on the market, documents made public from a lawsuit revealed that the FDA had fabricated the statement in their policy claiming that they were unaware of information showing that GM foods were substantially different. In reality, the overwhelming consensus among the FDA’s own scientists was that the foods were different and inherently dangerous; they could lead to hard-to-detect allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems—similar to the problems now highlighted in the AAEM position statement. The government scientists had urged superiors to require long-term safety testing, but were ignored. The biotech industry takeover of the FDA has since spread to regulatory bodies around the globe. Members of the European Food Safety Authority, for example, have been criticized for also being members of organizations that promote biotechnology. Leaked documents reveal that the European Commission is privately concerned about poor quality safety assessments and outstanding questions related to health effects, yet publicly declare GM foods as completely safe. I have witnessed similar patterns on all continents. Checklist for Safety Assessment When I presented the Minister of Environment with a copy of Genetic Roulette, I suggested that the Polish government require that the biotech industry respond to the 65 highlighted risks by presenting independent, rigorous scientific data to counter each risk. If they could not, then they had no justification for gambling with the health of Poland’s citizens. I also presented a copy of the book to Dr. Halat, a Polish epidemiologist and former main government sanitary inspector, vice minister of health, and chief environmental health officer. Dr. Halat has since reviewed the book and verified that the documentation supports the contention that GM food is unsafe. I propose that Poland not only rejects the introduction of GMOs into Polish agriculture, but also takes the pioneering position of rejecting GMOs in the food supply, until the biotech industry and the European Commission can adequately respond to the valid scientific and medical criticisms of the current technology. I offer my service to the Polish government and people to provide continuing evidence related to GMO health risks and am happy to respond to your inquiries. Best regards, Jeffrey M. Smith — Executive Director Institute for Responsible Technology www.responsibletechnology.org Author, Genetic Roulette and Seeds of Deception www.seedsofdeception.com
I write from the Copenhagen Summit to express my profound dismay at the Polish Government’s intention to promote genetically modified crops. If you allow GM crops and seeds to be planted in your countryside then Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be affected which, with the effects of climate change on your country, will have serious repercussions on your rural economy. Since 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GM crops, due to environmental and human health concerns, several European countries are now banning GM crops. Poland would be wise to do the same. This view is supported by thousands who are attending the Summit.

Dear chairman of the Polish Parliament, I ask you politely and sincerely to do everything to veto the new “GMO Act” and ban both MON 810 and any future GMO seed and plants that the EU may decide to authorize. In my country – Styria (part of Austria) we are so proud to have not planted GM crops – it so good for our farmers, for the people who buy Styrian products and for advertisement for our products. Just yesterday I have been with my students in the “House of science” and there a scientist also explained my students how dangerous the effects on our human body could be if we eat meat or products where GM is within. Furthermore there is no coexistence between GM and non GM crops. Germany – as I know – has banned again GM crops. Thank you an advance for reading my mail. U. P. Germany

70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers oppose the ‘GMO Act’. I join them in urging you to veto the new ‘GMO Act’ and ban both Monsanto’s GM maize MON 810 (as France and Germany have both done) and any future GMO seeds and plants that the EU may decide to authorize. There is serious international resistance to the genetically engineered pollution of the beautiful Polish countryside, with its 1.5 million small peasant farmsteads and fine farmhouse foods. I ask you to respect the wishes of the Polish citizens in stopping this genocide of the biodiversity of the Polish countryside and its occupants. Respectfully, J. A. O. Sacramento, California USA
Dear Mr Komorowski, I live in Cornwall, England and I am writing to add my voice to those around the world who want our governments to say no to GMO crops. Cane toads were introduced into Australia – it was an error of judgement; possums were released into the wild in New Zealand – it was an error of judgement; rhododendrons and Japanese knotweed were introduced into the gardens of England – once again unforeseen consequences that have impacted on the flora and fauna of the country. In all these cases, and there are many more, it might still be possible to eradicate the species from its new host country, but, once we manipulate genes there is no going back. Please say NO TO GMO and find sustainable solutions to our problems. B.T. England

‘GMO’ CALL FROM THE NETHERLANDS TO POLAND AND THE WORLD OPEN LETTER TO: Bronisław Komorowski 00-325 Warszawa ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 6 e-mail: biuro@bronislawkomorowski.pl Rotterdam, 9th December 2009. Dear Mr. Bronisław Komorowski, chairman of the parliament of the People’s Republic of Poland, Kindly we request you to send this letter to all the members of your democratic parliament. Please confirm us the receipt of this e-mail. Very soon, December 15th , you will take a decision of the introduction of GMO (genetically engineering of organism like vegetables, flowers, seed etcetera) into the environment for which I like your attention to the following: In a democratic society all decisions regarding new laws and political questions should be based on procedures of assembling, dialog and voting of the members in all the united political and social institutions, which will be anchored in the fundamental rights. However, the fundamental rights, fought by the proletariat in the European revolutionary year 1848, have been silently abolished from the EU Lisbon Treaty 2007[1]. It seems that such a misleading only will be possible by the influence of the system of the invisible political power. The system of the royal families and their political elite. Only the fundamental rights could protect us against this system as the expression said: ‘He who pays the piper calls the tune[2]‘. Nearly 449 million European people don’t know or have forgotten the criteria of our fundamental rights. This was caused by the fact that the term ‘populism’ is shown in dictionaries as a half truth[3]. In popular parlance we call this forgery. Quote: ‘Any truth which is too big to be seen is probably smaller than you can see it’. End quote An anonymous 19th century Dutch poet. Mr. Barroso, who seems to be a servant of these invisible political powers, has undergone a Pyrrhic victory with the EU treaty Lisbon 2007. It means, he has left with empty hands. Without respect of the fundamental rights the European Lisbon Treaty 2007 has not got any value. Most Europeans said ‘no’ to GMO. Only queen Beatrix of the Netherlands said “yes!” [4] GMO generates a new kind of fascism (Latin: fasces). In other words: ‘centralisation’. Centralisation of knowledge by ‘pseudo science’, what GMO in fact is, generates power. Centralisation of knowledge and power, without respect for the criteria of the fundamental rights, generates populism. Populism, in political hands, means a huge risk for fascism again. In this case a new kind of fascism of GMO/Alimentarius.[5] It means, when you now agree with the introduction of GMO in the environment, the human being of Europe will be oppressed again in the near future. (See the strategic plan of the Codex Alimentarius 2008-2013)[6]. In this case I also like to draw your attention to the book ‘Spinoza as a guide for a free world’ (issued in Amsterdam 2008). We learnt that one of Spinoza’s (1632-1677) famous pronouncements about a democratic society was the following: “The armament of citizens will be the only way for them for not being oppressed by their ruler(s)”.[7] I very much like to emphasize, before you vote ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to GMO, that the fundamental rights should be respected by everyone in the European Treaty Lisbon 2007. It should be necessary that the criteria for the fundamental rights in the institutions of all European countries should be equivalent. Please see in the attachment our letters to Mr. Barroso. And see also in the attachment the enclosed letter from the European Commission, General managing Justice, Freedom and Security, section F. Signed by Mr. Jaoquim Nunes de Aleida. Looking forward to your well considered decision on the 15th of December next. I remain with kind regards, Yours faithfully, Robert A. Verlinden. To the Chairman of the Polish Parliament Dear honorable Chair of the Polish Parliament, I send you this eMail, as I am very concerned about Poland being on the verge of admitting genetically manipulated plants. With it’s ban on GM crops, Poland has been the model for other European countries who wanted to ban GM crops. Living in Germany we envied your citizen for their freedom of GMfood. Neither your population nor other European consumers WANT GM food. It is the big corporations only that want Poland to allow this dangerous and unnecessary technology! If you don’t want to listen to your own people and your neighbours, listen to the ‘International Report on Food and Agriculture’: It warns not to introduce GMcrops and highly recommends a ban, as these crops pose a danger to agriculture and food safety especially in times of global warming. The effects of climate change will make diversity and ecology in agricutlrue more important than ever before. Please keep that in mind! Please do not sacrifice the ban of dangerous technology! Follow the precautionary principle! worried greetings from a German teacher and friend of Poland, its people and products
Dear Mr Komorowski, I hope you will not permit dangerous Genetically modified crops to be grown in Poland as once these crops are planted they behave like an alien infection and cannot be undone. I live in the country of Wales where our government has wisely banned the growing of Gm crops so why not decide as wisely for Poland? There are no benefits to the consumer from GM foods and considerable dangers to health and to the planet as the soil is destroyed releasing carbon by the industrial farming methods needed for these crops with intensive use of oil-derived chemicals. Not the best time to adopt such a dangerous path when the Copenhagen summit has just begun. Please think again.
To the chairman of the Polish Parliament Dear Sir, I demand a veto of this new ‘GMO Act’ and a ban of both MON 810 and any future GMO seeds and plants that the EU may decide to authorise. Please, save the beautiful Polish countryside from genetically engineered pollution. Kind regards
Dear chairman of the Polish Parliament, Let us european people work on the same good future. The Polish parliament has chosen December 15th 2009 for a debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’. Due to the fact that GM crops and feedstuffs which have never been proved to be environmentally safe or harmless to human beings and animals. Far the worst, if it was proved that it would hurt the humans health or theenviroment, the ruinous consequences of the wrong dicision would unrecallably . The following generations will suffer for ever, Not just your people, because the GMO pollution don´t take care the national boundaries. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably and will lost irrevocable if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Do you want to drive a car without brakes? As you know the leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health concerns. Many opinion surveys in European Union also show that the most citizens, 80% of them have rejected the GMO. I hope you will take our and your peoples grave concern over the GMO seriously. Don´t allow anyone to subject your Country for a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on generations. You have the responsibility to protect your country and people. The precautionary principle should guide your act. Therefore you should withhold consent until the removal of all reasonable doubt with respect to each of these varieties, following submission of hard evidence by the applicants and consideration of other evidence. In my Country GMO is already banned and you are wellcome to join us. Give Ecocrime no chance !!! Yours sincerely Germany, Bavaria
Dear Bronisław Komorowski … I apologise for not speaking Polish … I transmit this message in English with the points translated into French for the more cultivated members of your Parliament. I’m sure you’ll understand why I’m writing. Because nobody in their right mind could possibly consider letting the GM monoculture into a countryside as unspoilt and beautiful as yours. And don’t tell me you need to feed the world. Because we’ve heard that lie a million times already. The future for Poland is in the export of high quality family farm produce to your neighbours. Europe has had enough of factory farm junk food and cannot survive without a healthy and nourishing farming industry. In the USA the same realisation is dawning on farmers there. Victims of a new crop of superweeds, even now some of them don’t want to admit that the Chemical Backlash is actually happening to them. But, as the US newspaper article below suggests the cost of herbicides is becoming prohibitive as petrochemical prices soar and banks threaten to foreclose on their overdrafts. In many cases they’re reduced to handweeding or abandoning them to the monster ‘pigweed’ caused by Monsanto’s glyphosate. If they don’t rejuvenate the fertility of their exhausted soils, diversify their agriculture and move their economy onto a more sustainable basis, Uncle Sam and other Western governments could soon reaping at home what they have been sowing elsewhere for decades : starvation and bankruptcy. Poland now has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to choose another less dangerous fate. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Say NO to GMOs ! (1) Les pays européeens qui comprennent mieux l’enjeu sanitaire et environnemental des OGM en milieu non-confiné les ont interdit comme culture en plein champs. Herbicide resistant Palmer amaranth becoming known as super weed May 7, 2008 12:00 PM, By Roy Roberson Farm Press Editorial Staff rroberson@farmpress.com . Source : http://southeastfarmpress.com/mag/farming_herbicide_resistant_palmer/ For growers in the Southeast with a history of continuous use of glyphosate-based and ALS-inhibiting herbicides, the question is not if, the question is when will resistant pigweed become a problem. Since University of Georgia researchers first documented true glyphosate resistance in south central Georgia, the explosion in reporting of weeds resistant to several families of herbicides has rocked farming communities from North Florida to Virginia. The biggest newsmaker continues to be Palmer amaranth, commonly known as big-seeded pigweed, and rapidly becoming known as ‘super weed’. Since first documented in 2005, counties in Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee have also confirmed resistant Palmer pigweed. Eight more counties in Georgia and two counties in Alabama are expected to confirm resistant varieties during the 2008 season. In less than three years since his initial findings in 2005, University of Georgia Weed Scientist Stanley Culpepper contends there are 15-20 times more glyphosate and ALS-resistant weed acres in his state. In North Carolina, venerable Weed Scientist Alan York has documented an alarming trend in weeds resistant to several popular herbicide families. The bottom line, he says, is that farmers have a problem that can be fixed, but first they have to admit they have a problem. A recent international survey of weed resistance by the Weed Science Association confirms herbicide resistant weeds is a growing problem all over the world. Group G/9 herbicides are known as glycines, which cause the inhibition of EPSP synthase. Research has shown these particular biotypes are resistant to glyphosate and they may be cross-resistant to other Group G/9 herbicides and/or other herbicide families. In North Carolina, York has found pigweed with resistance to both glyphosate and ALS-inhibiting herbicides. Because the ALS inhibitors are commonly used in other crops grown in rotation with cotton and soybeans, York says farmers need to pay special attention to what families of herbicides they are using on all crops. Herbicides that target the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS) are among the most widely used in the world. Unfortunately, these herbicides are also notorious for their ability to select resistant weed populations. Now, there are more weed species that are resistant to ALS-inhibiting herbicides than to any other herbicide group. South Carolina grower William McElveen says glyphosate resistant pigweed first started to become a problem on his farm in 2006 in soybeans and cotton. “We would see a weed escape here and another in another part of the field. We suspected we had a problem, but it wasn’t widespread,” he says. “Last year we really had a problem. In one field we brought in people to pull weeds, and the weeds came right back,” he laments. There are many fields in Lee County that have been called ‘suspect’, but we feel we have resistance, the South Carolina grower says. Resistance created a big enough problem for McElveen that he revamped his herbicide program for cotton. “This year, I am planning to broadcast the label rate of Valor in the tank-mix with Roundup two to three weeks prior to planting. After planting, I am going to apply Reflex right behind the planter wheel. Even though we may use the same family of herbicides, we feel like we are spreading them out far enough to help reduce the risk of causing resistance to any one herbicide, he says. McElveen grows 600 acres of cotton, 600 acres of peanuts, 500 acres of corn and 500 acres of soybeans double-cropped with wheat. Like so many growers, McElveen says he cannot quit using glyphosate-containing herbicides, even in fields in which he knows he has resistance problems. He explains that glyphosate has been the most economical way to manage cocklebur, sicklepod, grasses and a host of other weed and grass problems. The recent rise in price of glyphosate-containing herbicides may change that theory for some growers in 2008. Farmers who did not buy their herbicides early in the year are finding prices doubled from 2007. Reasons for the dramatic increase in price for all glyphosate-based herbicides vary, but include: Price of fuel and general recession of the economy. Production of generic glyphosate in China is decreasing. Demand for glyphosate in Brazil and other growing farm economies around the world is increasing. Increases in corn, wheat and soybean production in the U.S. is driving supply down. The price increase may make it more viable for farmers in the Southeast to move away from glyphosate-based herbicide programs to a more diverse system that utilizes several different chemical families. Fremont, N.C., grower Jerry West says his problems with glyphosate resistant pigweed came from using poultry litter that clearly included resistant pigweed seed in with the corn used in the poultry feed formulation. “We didn’t have any problems with resistant pigweed until three years ago. We like poultry litter for fertilizer — it fits our operation well. In one particular field, we used litter and the next year we had pigweed in the field that we could not kill with glyphosate,” he says. For West it was one more reason to get out of the cotton business for a while. Not a primary reason, he notes, but one of many reasons that he and his sons tired of growing cotton. In addition to leaving off cotton the past two years, they now sell litter from their turkey production facility to a local energy company, rather than have it spread on farmer’s fields. Though glyphosate resistant pigweeds have probably been around for several years, the first documented cases came in 2005. Since that time the problem has skyrocketed, partly because of better detection and reporting. The big question is why? York says we have an ideal recipe for weed resistance in the Southeast. A number of crops may be rotated with cotton. However, from 1996 to 2000, the vast majority of cotton, perhaps as high as 75 percent, was grown as a continuous monoculture. Prior to the dramatic drop in cotton acreage in the Southeast in 2007, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas and North Carolina represented 10-12 million acres of cotton annually. With the exception of Texas, all these states planted 97-99 percent glyphosate-resistant varieties as late as 2006. The end result, York contends is a perfect recipe for disaster, when you factor in growth potential of Palmer amaranth, compared to any of these crops. Dubbed ‘the super weed’, Palmer amaranth, or pigweed, can produce well over 500,000 seed from a single mature plant. Mature Palmer pigweed can easily top six feet tall and 6-8 inches wide at the base of the plant. Harvesting cotton fields containing even a small percentage of mature pigweed is no bargain at best and impossible in some severe situations. There is no single remedy to fight glyphosate resistant pigweed in cotton or soybeans, but with acreage in both crops expected to increase in the Southeast in 2008, farmers likely will be looking for some alternatives that fit into their production system. York says some of rules of thumb to follow include: Use both pre-mergence and postemergence herbicides that have different modes of action. Use a herbicide at layby that has a different mode of action from previous treatments. Reduce soil seed banks by continuously maintaining good weed control. Survey weed populations each season and record observations, especially weeds that escape known herbicide applications. Hand remove, if necessary target weeds not controlled by herbicides known to control these weeds. In fields where herbicide resistance is known or highly suspected, clean vehicles and equipment prior to moving to fields where resistance is not suspected Do not continue to treat weeds with herbicides that continue to show an inabilitly to control the target weed. To help manage glyphosate resistant pigweed, several companies have brought back, or in the process of bringing back old, proven herbicides. Most of these companies have detailed herbicide resistance avoidance programs on their respective Web sites. Perhaps the best, and most unbiased of these is the National Cotton Council.
Mr. Komorowski, The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. In my Country GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland? Thank you in advance for making this effort to stop GMO in Poland. France
Dear chairman of the Polish Parliament, The Polish parliament has chosen December 15th 2009 for a debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’. Yours sincerely

Dear Mr. Komorowski, my Polish friends send around the news that Poland is going to debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’ that, if passed, will open the door for planting GM crops on Polish soil. To my understanding, the majority of the Polish people is against the genetically engineered pollution of the beautiful Polish countryside, with its 1.5 million small peasant farmsteads and fine farmhouse foods. I’m sure you are aware of the fact, that the leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. My own country has already banned GMO, so why Poland is going a different way, which in the end will lead to the isolation of Poland in GMO free Europe? With GMO, Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. As chairman of the Polish Parliament you are empowered to stop this new ‘GMO Act’ and ban both MON 810 and any future GMO seeds and plants. The Polish country is worth any engagement for the protection of its coutryside. Thank you for your understanding. Yours sincerely, Germany

Dear Bronisław Komorowski I am writing with regard to your forthcoming debate and vote on the New GMO Act in the Polish parliament on 15th December 2009. At a time when western governments are espousing democracy across the globe, it would be a show of strength for the Tusk government to listen to the overwhelming voice of your people (70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers) who oppose GMO. The passing of this act would be a travesty. Poland boasts a beautiful and unique natural and agricultural environment which is revered by other nations who long ago lacked the foresight to protect their most precious assets. Your government now has the opportunity to resist the lure of multi-national corporations and stand strong to protect your valuable biodiversity. It will demonstrate tremendous wisdom to remain prudent and not subject your country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. GMO has been banned in many leading European countries and 80% of European citizens have said NO to GMO because of concerns over human health and environmental damage. Please make the right decision too. Yours sincerely
Mr. Bronisław Komorowski Dear Sir, the leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. This is in accord with 80% of European citizens. They have stated that they do not want GMO. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Be careful. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. In my Country GMO is already widely banned – so why not in Poland? Yours sincerely Germany
Dear Friend, we would preserve the world from GMO. We join 70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers. Would you enough good to let a ban of both MON 810 and any future GMO seeds and plants that the EU may decide to authorise? Why? # The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. # 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. # Polands unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. # Follow the precautionary principle. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. # In Hungary GMO is already banned so why not in Poland? These are undeniable facts that you must not disregard. With best wishes,
Dear Mr. Komorowski, please protect Poland’s unique natural biodiversity and put a veto to the new ‘GMO Act’ to ban GM crops and seeds on 15th december. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. So please act wisely and follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Best wishes, sincerely,
Dear Mr. Komorowski, The Polish parliament is preparing a vote on a new “GMO Act” that would permit planting GM crops in Poland. Let me point out that it has been repeatedly demonstrated that co-existence between GM and non GM crops is simply not possible. Contamination almost always occurs. A ‘Union of Concerned Scientists’ report from 2004, “Gone to Seed”, showed that traditional crop seeds are contaminated with DNA from genetically engineered (GE) crops. Laboratory testing of traditional (non-GE) corn, soybeans, and canola reveals the presence of DNA from commercial GE crops. The genetically engineered maize MON 810 has now been banned in 7 EU Countries, including Germany and France. This ban is based on environmental and human health concerns. It is difficult to understand why Poland does not join these countries and ban all GM crops. By keeping Poland a GMO Free Country you would be acting in compliance with EU legislative requirements, namely implementing the precautionary principle and respecting the EU’s provisions on risk assessment. Why do you want to subject your country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity is too valuable to risk not reversable pollution that would result if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. The majority of European citizens have continuously stated that they do not want GMOs to be grown in Europe. GMOs frequently have unexpected side effects that are not beneficial even to the farmers who planted them. For example, 1. Plants (Arabidopsis) producing a biodegradable polyester were smaller, often did not produce seeds, and showed severe changes in metabolism. source: K. Bohmert et al., Planta, vol. 211, pp 841-845 (2000)) 2. Herbicide resistant soybean plants were shorter, with less chlorophyll, lower weight, and increased susceptibility to stem splitting at high temperatures. A report by the ‘Union of Concerned Scientists America’ entitled ‘Failure to yield’ (www.ucsusa.org then click on food and agriculture) is the first report to closely evaluate the overall effect genetic engineering has had on crop yields in relation to other agricultural technologies. It reviewed two dozen academic studies of corn and soybeans, the two primary genetically engineered food and feed crops grown in the United States. Based on those studies, the UCS report concluded that genetically engineering herbicide-tolerant soybeans and herbicide-tolerant corn has not increased yields. Insect-resistant corn, meanwhile, has improved yields only marginally. The increase in yields for both crops over the last 13 years, the report found, was largely due to traditional breeding or improvements in agricultural practices. I urge you and the other members of your parliament to take these scientific findings into consideration and to ensure that these risky crops, whose real consequences are unpredictable, will not be cultivated commercially in Poland. These crops also do not really help farmers. Instead their introduction would effectively turn Polish farmers into serfs of the large corporations that produce these seeds. I cannot believe that you can be so easily deluded into thinking that this would be good for Poland. You would do far better put environmental safety and the health of your citizens before the commercial interests of large corporations and to declare Poland completely GMO-free. Please forward this letter also to your colleagues. Sincerely Yours, Dr. Dirk-Michael Harmsen DMH Consulting Bertha-von-Suttner-Str. 3a D-76139 Karlsruhe, Germany
Dear Minister Komorowski, I am writing to urge you and your colleagues to veto the GMO act, along with related GMO authorizations. I have been working in organic and sustainable agriculture for 20+ years, specializing in education, marketing and public relations. During those years, my family and I helped pioneer the organic agriculture market. My clients include large corporations and small farms, world-renowned research organizations and NGOs. Our family’s farm was one of the early pioneers in organic dairy farming, and we have also successfully developed models for rural economic development in conjunction with preserving agriculture and the environment. In 2005, the UK’s Prince Charles made a special 2-day visit to learn from our farming community, making international media headlines. In 2004, our county became one of the first in the United States to ban GMOs. Many years ago, I had the privilege of visiting your beautiful country and working with organic farmers in Poland. I remember clearly their deep concerns about the potential impact of both GMOs and other impacts of EU unification. About three years ago, I worked with a large Polish vodka producer to evaluate the feasibility for marketing certified organic vodka in the United States and EU. Although that project did not come to completion, in the following years, the market for organic vodka has grown significantly. Poland has a tremendous, positive image for it’s natural agriculture. It is clear to many well-respected scientists, business people and concerned citizens around the world that GMO agriculture is, at best, a very short-term solution for much larger social and economic problems. Indeed, in many places around the world, we are already experiencing the negative impacts of GMOs including, but not limited to increased use of dangerous chemical pesticides, bankruptcy of farmers and, not least of all, contamination of all agricultural products which can and has had for many countries specific and quantifiable negative economic consequences. The reality is, GMOs can not be contained – the contaminate non-GMO and even organic crops and foods. Consumer protests against GMOs is very, very significant, and the vast majority (80+% of EU citizen, and a similar number of Americans) oppose GMOs, and the protests only continue to get louder. I am not a politician, and I can only imagine the pressures you must face in determining the future of your country. I realize that GMOs, and the corporations marketing them have tremendous influence and make fabulous promises for domestic prosperity and international solutions to hunger. But I’m asking you to also consider the extensive, specific and quantifiable negative impacts of GMOs as many other nations have experienced, and to aggressively seek alternatives. There is a huge movement of organizations and businesses internationally who would support your decision to ban GMOs. Sincerely, Michael Straus, President Straus Communications, LLC San Francisco, CA USA www.StrausCom.com
Dear Mr Bronislaw Komorowski The increasing evidence of safety concerns with regard to GM crops prompts me to ask you to reject the new GMO Act which will jeopardise the biosafety and the national interest of Poland and its people. I would therefore, urge you to respect the wishes of 70 % of Polish citizens and the majority of your farmers by vetoing the GMO Act. I write from India where we have serious evidence of corrupt regulatory clearances fro GMO despite evidence of serious harm from Bt cotton and safety-testing norms being flouted. You will be supporting all groups that stand for the precautionary principle with regard to GM crops, a principle that is increasingly looking sane and wise. Yours sincerely
Dear Bronislaw Komorowski I write to you on behalf of the British Horse Loggers. We object to the expansion and field growing of GMO’s and urge you to reject their approval in Poland. We support traditional and skilled growing methods, non GMO products and the use of draught animals in sustainable farming and forestry. Yours sincerely

Dear Mr. Komorowski, I am writing you on behalf of the Institute of Science in Society (ISIS), a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing critical and accessible scientific information to the public and to promoting accountability and sustainability in science, and also a member of the roster of experts on the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety on GMOs..I understand that the Polish Parlaiment will be debating the GMO Act 15 December, and am very anxious that your Parliament may open the doors for planting GMOs in your country. There is now a stack of evidence against the safety of GMOs for health and the environment. Whenever scientific studies independent of the industry carry out feeding trials, they find illnesses, sterility or death. The same has been witnessed by farmers and workers in the fields. ISIS has been monitoring the scientific literature and other sources for the past 16 years. This is why leading member countries of the European Union have imposed bans on different GMOs. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be destroyed if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted; not only that its export market will be be completely wiped out, as 80 percent of all Europeans do not want to eat GM food, and are also demanding non-GMO in animal feed. Please also take into consideration what growing GM crops will do to small family farmers. The expensive seeds (technology fees) and inputs required will put them into debt. The experience of farmers in India should serve as a dire warning. GM cotton introduced into that country since 2002 has accelerated farmers’ indebtedness and suicide rates. There is now a developing scientific consensus that organic non-GM agro-ecological farming is the way ahead for feeding the world and mitigating climate change. I enclose a recent fully referenced lecture for your consideration. There is much more information available on our website. Yours sincerely, Dr. Mae-Wan Ho Director, Institute of Science in Society www.i-sis.org.uk
Dear Sir, I am writing to urge you most respectfully to ensure that the discussion I understand will be held in Poland in the next few days about GMO cultivation protects Poland’s agriculture and ecosystems by preventing the cultivation of GMOs. As has been seen too many times, most recently in Australia, but also in the US, Canada, China, Mexico, Peru, France and so on, it is not possible for GM and non-GM cultivation to “coexist”. We admire the stand Poland has taken so far to protect itself from GMOs and to ensure that Europe continues to have non-GM agriculture to feed us when other countries have not done so. Please do what you can to ensure this continues to be the case. Yours respectfully, Scotland
Dear Sir I have just read that ‘the Polish parliament has chosen December 15th 2009 for a debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’ that, if passed, will open the door for planting GM crops on Polish soil, based on EU standards that authorise co-existence between GM and non GM crops on a commercial scale.’ There are many reasons why it is better not to grow GM crops. Contamination of non GM crops being one reason. Do you know about Bayer being sued by US farmers who say that their rice was contaminated by an experimental GM rice? This is part of what I read – Bayer has admitted it has been unable to control the spread of its genetically-engineered organisms despite ‘the best practices [to stop contamination]‘(1). It shows that all outdoors field trials or commercial growing of GE crops must be stopped before our crops are irreversibly contaminated. And elsewhere I read: Bayer CropScience must pay about $2 million for losses sustained by two Missouri farmers when an experimental variety of rice the company was testing cross-bred with their crops, a federal jury ruled. Friday’s verdict in St. Louis came in the first trial in what is intended to be a series of test cases against the unit … If you allow GM crops to be grown in Poland then your country will most likely have contamination of non GM crops. A few years ago, a student who was working at my place of work, travelled around Europe for eight weeks in the Summer by train to quite a few countries, including France, Spain and Italy. In September she returned to her part time job, and I asked her which country she liked the best. She said Poland – it is the most beautiful country and the people are so friendly. I have also seen programmes on television in the UK about Poland, showing that you have not got the same amount of intensive farming as the UK. Please consider how important it is to protect your environment and the many farmers who grow crops which are not intensively grown and may also be to organic standards. Tasmania is a country that has decided not to grow GM crops. As a result it is exporting GM free canola and soya beans to Japan – Japanese trading company, Kanematsu Corporation has bought 1,500 tonnes of Tasmanian canola seed this year and it wants more for a clean, green non-genetically modified cooking oil label. Poland could also grow non GM crops and export to other countries. It is a very important market as 95% of soya grown in the US is GM soya. This makes it very difficult for US farmers to grow organic soya or non GM soya, because of the risk of contamination. However, it is not just about contamination. There have been feeding studies done on mice and rats which have shown health problems from eating GM potatoes and other GM foods. Please listen to people who are asking you not to approve GM crops. Let Poland stay a clean, green and beautiful country. With regards England
Dear Sirs You are being MIS-GUIDED by those with vested interests in GMOs. GMOs are damaging to animals’ organs – that has been shown time and again. They will also be damaging to YOUR body and your CHILDREN’S bodies. Just because the American people have been eating GMOs for ten years means NOTHING. The organs of all who are eating GMOs will slowly be deteriorating. The livers of animals have been damaged by genetically modified foods. Common sense tells you these foods cannot be safe for our children. People will die in America from eating this diet. But it will be difficult making the connection – and boy, do the drug giants know that! When an American dies from liver failure, it will show on his death certificate: “CAUSE OF DEATH: Liver failure.” It will NOT show: “CAUSE OF DEATH: Eating GMOs”, It is like smoking. One cigarette won’t kill you, but smoking long term DOES kill. However the difference is that GMOs will become widespread and impossible to stop! If you are being paid money by the drug giants to enable this legislature to pass, you are playing Russian roulette with your CHILDREN’S bodies and health. As well as your own. So consider strongly what you are doing. The entire Polish population is in your hands. Do not listen to the VESTED INTERESTS of the well-paid scientists of Monsanto. They could not CARE LESS about the health of the population in Poland. Thank you and I trust you will take the honourable action and not be swayed by powerful, but vested-interest, bodies. Regards (Author: Curing Food Allergies) UK
Dear Bronislaw Komorowski Please respect the wishes of 70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers by vetoing the new ‘GMO Act’ and banning both Monsanto’s GM maize MON 810 (as France and Germany have both done) and any future GMO seeds and plants that the EU may decide to authorise. The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMOs. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted irreversibly if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Follow the precautionary principle. Act wisely. Do not subject Poland to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. Yours sincerely UK
Dear Chairman Bronisław Komorowski, I understand that you intend to pass a new act that will lay the ground for the first legal planting of GM crops on Polish land. Please do not go ahead with this new act. It will have extremely detrimental consequences for the people of Poland, and in the long term will damage your economy. There is much heavy lobbying on behalf of GM foods at this time by those with a vested interest, and although the promises they make can be very attractive to those with little knowledge of GM, the reality is totally different. I would urge you to check out the increasing number of peer-reviewed scientific studies carried out by INDEPENDENT scientists on the effects of feeding GM foods to animals. The results are not good – they show that laboratory animals fed GM food develop pre-cancerous growths in their digestive tract, dysfunction of liver, kidney and immune systems, reduced fertility shown by a lower birth-rate, and more acute ageing symptoms and a shorter life span. Hardly anyone wants these GM foods. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GM foods, 70% of Polish people feel the same way and the leading countries of the Union are banning GM crops because they have studied the research and do not want to put the environment and the health of their citizens at risk. In addition, increasingly people are seeking supplies of non-GM animal feed as well as normal non-gm crops. Where is the economic sense in destroying Poland’s natural biodiversity by polluting it irrevocably by allowing GM crops to be planted? Who are you going to sell these crops to? All over the world where GM crops have been grown, people are now turning away from them after seeing the sometimes devastating results and/or finding out about the suppression of negative research results by those with a vested interest in them. The farmers who will prosper now are those who have kept their land free of GM and can supply what people want. Any country that chooses to go down the GM path now, is on a very slippery slope to disaster. And those who decide to set their country on that course, in the face of the evidence against GM that is now emerging, will surely have to face the consequences of ignoring this evidence and in effect, deliberately putting their country and its citizens in danger. So please do study the independent research before taking such a step. It is only common sense to be well-informed before taking such a critical decision. Yours sincerely, United Kingdom
Dear Mr President, 1.The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 2.80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. 3.Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. 4.Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. 5.In my Country GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland? Honorable Chairman of the Polish Parliament, It has been called to our attention that the Polish parliament has chosen December 15, 2009, for a debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’ If this act is passed, it will open the door for planting GM crops on Polish soil, instead of joining other EU Member States in introducing a ban of the controversial GM maize MON 810 (now banned in 7 EU countries, including Germany and France) because of serious environmental and animal heath concerns raised through recent studies. This new act will lay the ground for the first legal planting of GM crops on Polish soil in defyance of the wishes of 70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers, who reject GMO in Poland and in farm products. We therefore ask you to veto this new ‘GMO Act’ and to actively promote a ban of both MON 810 and GMO seeds and plants in general until a sound evaluation system for approval has been set up and further risk assenssment for long term effects have been carried out by truely independent bodies. The arguments against GMO imports and cultivation are overwhelming, please take them into consideration: 1. The leading countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 2. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. 3. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. 4. ‘The precautionary principle’ is incorporated into EU-law. It should be followed by all (but is unfortunately being neglected because of GMO-industry lobby sucess on Commission level). Please act wisely. Do not subject your country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations! 5. In my country (Germany) MON 810 is already banned – so why not in Poland? Best regards, Sabine Ohm European Policy Officer PROVIEH VgtM e.V. www.provieh.de
Dear Ms, I have just heard your plan to let GMO production into your country. I would like to ask you NOT to vote this act. GMOs have unpredictable effects, nobody knows what. You would also become dependent in a certain rate from other countries in your food supply beside fossil fuels. Newest studies prove that advantages of GMOs are disadvantages instead. E.g. GMOs increases the quantity of pesticides instead of reducing it (see Charles Benbrook: Impacts of Genetically Engineered Crops on Pesticide Use in the United States: The First Thirteen Years, 2009 November). Developed countries just started to recognise the harmful side of GMOs, please join developed countries! Please do not vote GMOs into your Country Best regards Associate Professor Hungary
To the Chairman of the Parliament of My Dear Neighbor Poland, 7 December 2009 Please do not let mindless profit-driven corporations lead you down a horrifying road from which you can never return. They are showing you a false image. Do not be fooled. Please wake-up. Please defy this cowardly and secretive attempt to contradict the wishes of 70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers. Please veto the present ‘GMO Act’ and ban both MON 810 and any future GMO seeds and plants that the EU may decide to authorise. This is Poland. Please take care of her. Please stop the genocide of the biodiversity of the Polish countryside and its occupants. 1.The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. They will not be corrupted. 2.80% of Europeans have stated that they do not want GMO. 5.In Germany GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland? Please use all the force of your entrusted office to protect the land. What else is there?
Dear Mr Komorowski I kindly ask you to do everything you can to ban GMO from Polish fields 1.The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. With thanks and kind regards
7th December 2009 Dear Mr Komorowski, —————————– The proposed new act authorising GMO plantings in Poland ———————————————- It has been brought to our attention that you have decided upon December 15th 2009 for a debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’ that, if passed, will open the door for the planting GM crops on Polish soil. This would, we assume, be based on the deeply flawed EU standards that authorise co-existence between GM and non GM crops on a commercial scale. If you go ahead with this Act, it appears that it will defy the wishes of 70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers — and will demonstrate that — in the eyes of your Parliament — the corporate ambitions of Monsanto and the other GM multinationals are of greater importance than public opinion. You will also, of course, be doing precisely what the US administration and the WTO want — ie opening up the eastern European market to GMOs on a large scale, in furtherance of their “free trade” agenda, without any consideration of the health, safety and environmental implications. We therefore ask for a veto of this new ‘GMO Act’ and a ban of both MON 810 and any future GMO seeds and plants that the European Commission (in the absence of agreement from the nation states) may decide to authorise. May we remind you that the leading Countries of Europe are now banning named GM crops based on environmental and human health fears? Still, after 20 years of GM development and hype, GM crops have not delivered anything of value. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMOs in their diets. Everybody knows that GM “coexistence” is in reality quite impossible, and that Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be permanently polluted if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. We therefore urge you to follow the lead of other countries and to follow ‘the precautionary principle’. By acting wisely now, you can avoid subjecting Poland to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. In Wales there is cross-party support for a “GM-Free” designation, and the Welsh Assembly uses all its powers to enact legislation designed to PREVENT the plantings of GM crops. We believe that this gives Wales a strong competitive advantage, as well as protecting our health and our precious environment. We will be grateful if you will consider carefully the points we have raised, and will act in accordance with the wishes of your people. Yours sincerely, Dr Brian John GM-Free Cymru (Wales) Trefelin Cilgwyn Newport, Pembs SA42 0QN Wales, UK=
Dear Madam, Sir, dear Chairman of the Polish Parliament, Re. the debate on the 15th December on GMO’s: Please do everything in your power to prevent the eventual destruction of the Polish countryside by huge pharmaceutic Companies such as Bayer, BASF, Pioneer and Monsanto. Don’t believe their propaganda: This has nothing to do with innovation or a ‘higher’ form of breeding. The track record of GMO’s is poor in every way. Nature does better. Their only interest is to gain new patents in order to dominate the market. Farmers will have to pay licence fees for seeds which were previously in abundant supply or very cheap. The package goes with the compulsory use of their expensive pesticides (like Round-up Ready). Don’t have illusions about freedom of choice: Once these beasts exist in nature, they cannot be removed but contaminate other plants. In Europe, Two Thirds of the population don’t want seeds from a Genetic Lab while nature abundantly supplies the seeds we need. In other words: GMO’s are the answer to a question nobody asked. The question is simple: Will the Polish parliament act as lobbyists for large multinationals or defend the interests of Polish farmers? Monsanto and others always act against the interests of those who have to grow a n d most of all – consume the poison seeds they produce. This is why in more advanced countries with a high food culture – France, Switzerland, Austria, France and so far Poland also – a mass movement has been fighting to ban the entry of any GM – organisms into the continent of Europe. In Germany, the Christian Democrats have recently banned MON 810. If you want to know what happens when Polish farmers are forced to plant GMO’s, you can go to the website of Percy Schmeiser, winner of the alternative Nobel Prize 2007, who had a huge natural farm in Canada where he grew Corn and which was destroyed by Monsanto (www.percyschmeiser.com), a fascist company which employs a private police force and enters farmers’ lands without permission by anyone. In the United States and Canada, it is now near impossible to grow natural Soya, natural Corn and natural Rapeseed!!! Because of the spread of GMO’s there, all other organic producers usually experience contamination and cross-pollination with GMO’s. Biological diversity that has evolved over thousands of years and has to adapt to the specific climate of each country and its specific soil is destroyed by Monsanto. Don’t forget: Monsanto was the company that brought DIOXIN, Agent Orange and PCB’s to the world (partly in conjunction with Dow Chemical). Would you trust the producers of banned chemical weapons to provide you with healthy Cornflakes for your breakfast? Yours sincerely, Christoph Assheuer Translator, Tradit. Dear Chairman, My name is Sarolta Tripolszky, I work for the CEE conservation network CEEweb for Biodiversity. We act in 19 Central- and East European countries including 10 new EU member States and represent the views of 74 member organizations in the region and towards Brussels. I was deeply disappointed by the news of the Polish organization ICPPC that you try to pass a law which allows GMOs in Poland shortly before Christmas. GMOs are bad for biodiversity (as the decrease original crop diversity, which is our “insurance” for future), bad for human health (as the need more agro-chemicals, which end in nature and at last in our bodies) and against the economic interest of small farmers and the long term viability of the Polish countryside, and as such against the interest of the Polish State. All those who have an inside into the issues of nature protection and rural development know that GMOs are only good for the firms that produce them. They are not good for Poland from any point of view, not even from and economic one. Therefore the question arises for which reason you support the introduction of GMOs. For the above reasons I am asking you to undertake all necessary steps in order to stop this law being passed. Thank you very much, Best wishes,
Dear Sir, dear madam, there are many serious dangers regarding genetic manipulated crops, some well known, others not properly researched yet. The leading countries of Europe are therefor banning GM crops based on environmental and human health concerns. The European community and its people do not want GM Crops. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. Polands beautiful nature and it’s traditional farming diversity is in danger, if GM Crops are allowed by law. Experiences in other countries show dramtically, that this will turn farmers to slaves of the global players in GM market, because they are no more able or allowed to act and decide independently. This has been very well documented, i.e. in the documentary ‘Life running out of control’, which you find here: http://www.leben-ausser-kontrolle.de/ A short preview clip of the documentary you find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNhfK8kcwoM Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your country, your farmers and your own people to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. In my country GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland? Sincerely Writer Germany
Dear Sirs, 1. The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 2. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. 3. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. 4. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subjectyour Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. 5. In my Country GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland ? Thank you in advance for making this special effort to stop GMO in Poland. Best regards,
To the chairman of the Polish Parliament, I am from Turkey and I learned that the Polish parliament has chosen December 15th 2009 for a debate and vote on the new ‘GMO Act’ that, if passed, will open the door for planting GM crops on Polish soil, based on EU standards that authorise co-existence between GM and non GM crops on a commercial scale. I do not want any GMO in the world including Poland ! So, I am with the 70% of Polish citizens and the majority of Polish farmers. We all want you to stop it ! You must know that; – The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. – 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. – Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted as in the case of all countries. – You must follow ‘the precautionary principle’ and act wisely. You do not have the right to subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. – We are also struggling against GMO in my Country, and we will succeed to ban GMO in the world. Germany has now followed the lead taken by France, Hungary, Austria, Greece and Luxembourg, banning MON 810 on grounds of ‘environmental threat’. This action, as you are no doubt aware, comes on top of a majority of EU Countries voting earlier this year NOT to force Austria and Hungary to lift their MON 810 bans; and, more recently, postponing any action against France’s ban. This sequence of events signals the beginning of a turning of the tide in Europe, against GMO. It also offers Poland the opportunity to increase this equilibrium by following the example set by the Countries stated above, and banning MON 810 from being planted on Polish soil, on the same terms as those cited by Germany and indeed the other EU Countries. Bearing in mind that we now have clear independent scientific evidence of both severe environmental and human health risks directly associated with GM crops and animal feeds, the ‘Precautionary Principle’ can be evoked and a freeze put on any further GM trials and plantings, in order to protect Poland from irresponsible contamination of the food chain. We do most humbly call upon you, to use your powers to block any Spring planting of the GM Maize MON 810, and thereby protect the purity of the Polish and our countryside and the Polish and our foods that emanate from it. Sincerely Activist of “No to GMO in Turkey”
Ladies, Gentlemen, Mesdames, Messieurs, please recognize our VETO against GMO seeds and plants on european soil ! don’t let Monsanto and others let pollute our soils with their products, not only GMO seeds but also their chemical maces like ROUNDUP and similars ! 1.The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 2.80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. 3.Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. 4.Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Dear Mr Komorowski, I understand that the Polish parliament is about to discuss and possibly accept legislation allowing the introduction of the genetically modified crops in Poland. I am writing to appeal to you to stop this legislation from being adopted. The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health concerns and the unpredictability of the future outcomes once such crops have been introduced and allowed to spread widely. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. This is an overwhelming majority and it seems that they are being ignored. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted irreversibly if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Please do not be duped by one side of the scientific evidence which may not necessarily reveal the whole truth of the effects of the genetically modified crops. Err on the side of caution. ‘. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating consequences on future generations. More than anything, do not violate the will of the majority of your people by forcing the legislation through but be willing to listen. In Wales where I live, we share the same concerns as to the safety and unpredictability of the effects of genetically modified crops on future generations and the native biodiversity. Thank you for taking the time to read this message and the appeal therein. With best regards
Dear chairman of the Polish Parliament, Please stop the new ?GMO Act? on December 15th 2009 and consider the following points: 1. The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 2. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. 3. Poland?s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. 4. Follow ?the precautionary principle?. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. 5. In my Country GMO is already banned ? so why not in Poland? Yours sincerly
Dear sir: I hope you will do whatever is necessary to ban the planting of GM crops in your country. We are very much aware of what occurs above ground when GM crops are sprayed with herbicides but there are no studies that tell us what happens to the soil itself. There are also no studies that explain the consequences of herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides on the human body when GM foods are ingested. Once radioactive bombs are detonated, there is no way to contain the radioactivity in the atmosphere. Once GM crops are released into the soil, there is no way to contain the harmful effects. Our experience in the USA is that the only benefit of GM crops accrues to the company that is selling the chemicals used on these crops. Twelve years of experience shows no increase in yields of these crops but massive increases in herbicide and insecticide use. Just one very obvious side effect of increases in chemical use is the killing off of the honeybee populations. If the American people were allowed to see which foods contain GM material, those foods would be rejected. We are not allowed to know – just as we were not allow to know the detrimental effects of DDT and 2-4-5T until several years of exposure had occurred. Please be a statesman and act in a way the helps the majority of your citizens. Sincerely, Indiana USA
Dear Mr. Komorovski, please vote against planting GMO! Your natural biodiversity you have till nov, is a great change, also for Export. Think about this. Most of the people in europe, about 80 % are against GMO – if they can choose, they buy GMO-free. But if you allow planting GMO – also against the oppinion of the most of your own farmers – ypu can’t stop it – it blows with the wind and you can’t seperate it anytime!!!!! Think about atomic things, Tschernobyl – if it is in the world, you can’t stop ist. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations So: please vote against! Thank you for reading! Sincerly Nürnberg/Germany
Dear Sir, I am deeply concerned about the new ‘GMO Act’ which will be voted on the December 15th. I urge you to take into consideration following points: The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. In my Country (Switzerland) GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland? The biodiversity was created in billions of year. If It is important to stop the genocide of the biodiversity of the Polish countryside and its occupants. Best regards
Dear Mr. Chairman of the polish parliament: As a citizen of the EU who cares about the environment, I would like to express my concerns about the to-be-voted GMO Act (15th december). My position is the following: – we don’t need GMO to feed the population – there are environmental and health risks/uncertainties with GMO that can not be addressed as of today. The precautionary principle should apply. – it is very hard if not impossible to go back once GMO seeds have been used, the contamination of conventional seeds and the environment being unavoidable. Sustainable development requires us to keep biodiversity as bright as possible and not to mortage the future. In the hope that you resist the lobbying of the seed/chemical industry and listen only to the public interest, Sincerely yours, France
Dear Mr. Komorowski I hear the polish parliament is going to debate and to vote on a new ‘GMO Act’, which might open doors to new GMO Seeds and the contamination of Polish countryside. I write you from Germany where we had strong political fights on the ban of Mon 810 with our ministry of Agriculture Ilse Aigner. She finally was urged to act against the GMO construct by a mass of worried citizens, activists, farmers and doctors. Throughout all of Europe more than 80% of the people stick to their refusal of artificially designed living beings. Investigations show that this broad opinion does not exist because of a lack of information like the Multinationals like say but increases even the more people come to know about genetic manipulation practice. Being able to refer to the polish example of banning GMO throughout the country has been very essential and very empowering to our work here in Germany over the last years. I am very concerned hearing plans about stopping the moratorium. I want to plead you and the whole polish parliament :Help to prevent nature and gods whole creation of the sellout to multinationals. It is our planet, we have only this one and this is not to be bought by some evergreedy billionaires. For this is what GMO is about. It is about selling nature to some businessmen for making more money. Genetic manipulation will not save any poor soul of starvation but put simple subsistent farming out of reach for millions. Poland was a very important positive example in europe for all people fighting for global justice and the human right of food.Thank you therefore and please do not drop this status for some rich Lobbyists. Sincerely

Dear Sir and Madam, The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. Please take this in your consideration. Additionally, 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. Please do not overlook this. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. This is not changeable to the former status again! Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. To whom it may concern, I am not a Polish citizen but stand with those Polish people and 80% of Europe who do not want GM crops. Also: 1. The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health fears. 2. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. 3. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject your Country to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. 4. In my Country GMO is already banned – so why not in Poland? I therefore demand a veto of this new ‘GMO Act’ and a ban of both MON 810 and any future GMO seeds and plants that the EU may decide to authorise. If you consider yourself a human of principle and politician who wishes to represent democracy, justice, rights of future generations to uncontaminated crops instead of bowing down to the demands of greedy GM corporations like a slave or filling your own pocket with corporation bribes: Then please stand up like a man (or woman) of integrity and fight against this corrupt injustice! I ask you to please consider how you feel you led your life at the end of it – for humanity or for self-interest, with fear or courage? Thank you for your sincere consideration to become a partner in trying to create a healthy world everyone and our children. Yours sincerely, Germany
Dear Polish Members of Parliament, please note that: 1. The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on negative environmental and human health effects. 2. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. 3. Dear sir, do not allow the imposition of GMOs in Poland. Please do not pass laws that facilitate the growing of GMOs in Poland The leading Countries of Europe are banning GM crops based on environmental and human health issues. 80% of European citizens have stated that they do not want GMO. Poland’s unique natural biodiversity will be polluted unrecallably if GM crops and seeds are allowed to be planted. Follow ‘the precautionary principle’. Act wisely. Do not subject Poland to a genetic experiment that could have devastating repercussions on future generations. Just ban MON 810 and GMOs. Just ban the imports of GM animal feed, and market your produce with the mark up of GMO free. In Scotland, my Country, GMO’s are already banned – it would be in the best interests of Poland, and us all, if Poland banned all GMOs too. The Black Isle Scotland
